Why learn Dutch at Koentact?
If you’d like to fast-track your Dutch progress in Amsterdam, our Dutch Intensive week will pull you through/serve you well, whether you already have a basic knowledge of Dutch and want to make rapid progress, or you’re looking to strengthen your existing Dutch skills in an intensive setting.
Living in a foreign country can be a challenge, but even knowing just a little of the local language will make your life so much easier! Along with other internationals and expats, our unique Koentact method allows you to totally immerse yourself in the Dutch language, culture, and life for a full week during this Intensive Dutch course.
1. Learn Dutch in a small group
An intensive week-long course consists of 33 hours of lessons in 6 days. The classes are small, with a maximum of 6 students, to make sure each student receives the attention he or she needs. Enroll today to start your Intensive Week.
2. Jump a whole level in one week
This is the only Koentact course where you will be able to complete multiple Koentact levels in one course! The pre-elementary level: Dutch Experience 1+2 (A1), the upper-elementary level: Dutch Experience 3+4 (A2), the intermediate level: Dutch Challenge 1+2+3 (B1), and the advanced level Dutch Deli 1+2+3 (B2.
3. One Field Trip included
Classroom-based learning is all well and good, but at Koentact we strongly believe that you will benefit much more if you can apply what you have learned during our unique Field Trips. The classes focus on theory, while the Field Trip on Saturday is spent putting your new-found knowledge into practice. As an intensive week student, one future Koentact Field Trip is included in your course!
These are not only designed to help you use your newly improved Dutch skills, but also to discover more about the “real” Amsterdam, its interesting locals, and fascinating culture.
4. Free review classes
Since this approach of learning Dutch in our Intensive Dutch course is quite intensive, you are more than welcome to join our review classes in the second and fourth week after your intensive program, to go over what you have learned.
5. Free coaching for the Civic Integration Examination
From Dutch Experience 3 (A2.1) onwards, you can join our free civic integration workshops. We offer three workshops of 2,5 hours each. The workshops are consecutive, so taking all three will give you enough information to prepare yourself for het inburgeringsexamen on A2 and B1 levels.
6. Evaluation of your progress
Your progress will be evaluated during your course to determine if you are ready to move on to the next level. You will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of your Dutch course.
7. Is the Intensive Week right for you?
Our Intensive Dutch Week is designed for motivated learners who want to make rapid progress in a short period of time. During the week, we cover a lot of material and work intensively on all language skills.
It is important to have realistic expectations: an Intensive Week covers a large part of an ERK level, but completing the week does not necessarily mean that you will fully master that level. How much you get out of the week depends on your starting level, language-learning experience and the strength of your existing foundation.
The Intensive Week is therefore particularly suitable if the level is already within reach for you. You do not necessarily need to have completed the previous course, but the stronger your foundation, the easier it will be to keep up with the pace and benefit from the week.
What level should you have before joining?
- A1: You should already have a very basic knowledge of Dutch. For example, you know some basic words and phrases, can introduce yourself and have some familiarity with Dutch pronunciation. If you have zero knowledge of Dutch, we recommend starting with Dutch Experience 1 first.
- A2: You can join the Intensive Week if you have a reasonable foundation in A2. If your A1/A2.1 knowledge still has significant gaps, the regular course may be a better option first.
- B1: We recommend joining when you have a solid B1.1 foundation, particularly in both speaking and writing. You do not have to be perfect, but a strong foundation will help you get much more out of the intensive pace.
- B2: We recommend joining when B2.1 is already largely within reach, ideally with some knowledge approaching B2.2. This allows you to use the Intensive Week to further develop and deepen your B2 skills.
Of course, people progress at different speeds. Some learners with a strong language-learning background may be able to handle the pace particularly well, even if they have not followed the previous course at Koentact.
Expect some self-study
To keep up with the pace of the week, 1 hour of self-study per day is required. This is part of the course and may include homework, vocabulary learning and reviewing the material covered in class.
For students who want to get the most out of the Intensive Week, we recommend up to 1.5 additional hours of self-study per day. This additional study time is optional and can be used for extra practice, repetition and preparation.
Not sure whether the Intensive Week is right for you? Take our online level test or contact us before booking. We are happy to help you choose the course that best matches your current level and learning goals.
